Womic Stainless Steel Co., Ltd
Exceptional Seawater Corrosion Resistance: Outstanding resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking (SCC) in chloride environments. Titanium is immune to seawater corrosion regardless of velocity, temperature, or fouling conditions.
Superior Chloride Pitting and Crevice Corrosion Resistance: Unlike stainless steels and duplex alloys, Titanium Grade 2 exhibits no pitting or crevice corrosion in seawater and chloride-containing environments up to its maximum service temperature of 260°C (500°F).
Excellent Biofouling Resistance: Titanium Grade 2 naturally resists biofouling and marine growth, reducing maintenance requirements and preserving heat transfer efficiency over time.
Low Density – High Strength-to-Weight Ratio: Density of only 4.51 g/cm³ (approximately 57% of stainless steel and 43% of nickel alloys), providing significant weight savings in heat exchanger and vessel construction.
Excellent Resistance to Erosion and Cavitation: Titanium Grade 2 has excellent resistance to erosion and cavitation damage, making it ideal for high-velocity seawater applications (up to 20 m/s or 65 ft/s).
Excellent Heat Transfer Efficiency: Low thermal conductivity is offset by the ability to use very thin walls due to high strength-to-weight ratio, resulting in competitive overall heat transfer coefficients.
Non-Magnetic and Non-Toxic: Titanium is non-magnetic (suitable for degaussing systems) and biologically inert, making it ideal for food processing and pharmaceutical applications.
Good Weldability: Titanium Grade 2 offers good weldability with matching filler metal. Weld zones retain corrosion resistance comparable to the base metal.
Excellent Formability: Can be hot rolled and cold rolled to precise thicknesses.
International Certifications: Plates can be certified by ABS, BV, DNV, LR, GL, RINA, CCS, KR, NK for marine and shipbuilding applications, and comply with ASME, PED, and EN standards.

Titanium Grade 2 is commercially pure titanium with controlled oxygen content (0.10–0.25%) providing optimal strength and ductility. The high purity (≥98.9% Ti) and stable passive oxide film provide outstanding corrosion resistance in chloride environments.

Critical Note: Titanium Grade 2 has excellent resistance to seawater and chloride corrosion up to its maximum service temperature of 260°C (500°F). Above this temperature, titanium is susceptible to accelerated oxidation and embrittlement.
Heat Treatment Condition:
Titanium Grade 2 plates are normally supplied in the annealed condition (heat
treated at 650–760°C) followed by air cooling. This heat treatment relieves
internal stresses from rolling and restores optimum ductility and corrosion
resistance.
Critical Note: Unlike stainless steels, titanium does not require rapid cooling (quenching) after annealing. Air cooling is sufficient and does not affect corrosion resistance. Titanium should not be exposed to hydrogen atelevated temperatures to prevent hydrogen embrittlement.
Delivery Condition:
Plates are normally supplied in annealed and pickled condition,
providing a clean, smooth surface and excellent corrosion resistance. Bright
annealed (BA) finish is also available for applications requiring
ultra-clean surfaces. Upon request, mechanical polished finish
can be provided.

1. Why choose Titanium Grade 2 over
Super Duplex 2507 for plate applications?
Titanium Grade 2 offers superior resistance to crevice corrosion in stagnant
seawater, better performance in high-velocity seawater (up to 20 m/s vs 10
m/s), and complete immunity to chloride attack. Weight is 57% of stainless
steel. For long-term submergence in seawater and high-velocity applications,
titanium is preferred.
2. What is the maximum temperature
for Titanium Grade 2 plates?
260°C (500°F) for continuous service in seawater/chloride environments.
3. Is Titanium Grade 2 resistant to
biofouling?
Yes, titanium naturally resists biofouling and marine growth, reducing
maintenance requirements and preserving heat transfer efficiency.
4. Can Titanium Grade 2 plates be
used in reducing environments (no oxygen)?
Titanium Grade 2 requires some oxygen to maintain passive film. For reducing
environments (no oxygen), consider Grade 7 (Ti-Pd with palladium) which we also
supply upon request.
5. How is hydrogen embrittlement
prevented in titanium plates?
Titanium Grade 2 plates are manufactured with hydrogen content ≤0.015%.
Pickling uses specialized acids with controlled immersion time. Hydrogen
content analysis reports are available upon request.
6. Are Titanium Grade 2 plates
available with ASME certification?
Yes. Titanium Grade 2 plates can be supplied with ASME SB265 certification for
pressure vessel applications.
