Raw Material Selection: High-quality Duplex 2205 (S31803/S32205) stainless steel from certified mills (Outokumpu, Sandvik, POSCO, Baosteel) with certified chemical composition and ferrite/austenite balance verification.
Casting/Forging: Valve body and bonnet cast (CF3M equivalent) or forged to shape. Casting or forging processes controlled to maintain duplex microstructure.
Heat Treatment – Solution Annealing: Valve components solution annealed at 1040–1120°C followed by water quenching. This critical step restores the balanced 40–60% ferrite/40–60% austenite microstructure.
Machining: CNC lathes and machining centers produce precise dimensions – ball cavity, stem bore, flange faces, bolt holes, and seat pockets. Duplex requires proper tooling due to higher strength.
Ball Machining & Polishing: Ball is machined and polished to mirror finish (Ra ≤ 0.4μm) for bubble-tight shut-off.
Seat Machining: PTFE, RTFE, or PEEK seats machined to precise dimensions for proper sealing.
Stem Machining: Stem machined with anti-static spring grooves and blow-out proof shoulders.
Ferrite Content Verification: Random checks to ensure 35–65% ferrite content.
Assembly: Ball, seats, stem, seals, and body assembled in clean environment.
Testing: Hydrostatic shell test, high-pressure seat test, low-pressure air seat test (bubble test), NACE hardness test.
Marking: Laser engraved or stamped with size, pressure, material, heat number, API 6D, NACE MR0175,heat number, and fire-safe markings (if applicable).
Coating: External coating (epoxy or PTFE) for corrosion protection.
Pressure Testing: 100% hydrostatic shell test (1.5× rated pressure), high-pressure seat test (1.1× rated pressure), low-pressure air seat test (80 psi, bubble-tight).
Material Verification: PMI (Positive Material Identification) for body, ball, and stem – verification of Cr, Ni, Mo, N content.
Ferrite Content Measurement: Magnetic induction method – requirement: 35–65% ferrite.
Microstructure Examination: Verification of balanced dual-phase structure, absence of intermetallic phases (sigma, chi).
Hardness Testing: Brinell or Rockwell – max ≤290 HBW / ≤30 HRC. For NACE, ≤22 HRC for 316 components.
Dimensional Inspection: Face-to-face, flange dimensions, ball cavity, stem bore using calibrated instruments.
Leakage Testing: API 598 / ISO 5208 – zero detectable leakage for soft seat valves.
Fire-Safe Testing: API 607 / ISO 10497 (upon request).
NACE Compliance: MR0175 hardness testing and documentation.
Charpy Impact Testing: For offshore applications at -46°C (upon request).
Corrosion Testing: ASTM G48 pitting test (upon request).
Third-Party Inspection: ABS, BV, DNV, LR, GL, RINA, CCS, KR, NK, SGS, TUV on customer request
Offshore Oil & Gas Platforms: Topsides process isolation valves, subsea manifold valves, riser shutdown valves, chemical injection valves (ABS/BV/DNV/LR certified, NORSOK M-650 qualified).
Seawater Systems: Seawater cooling system isolation valves, firewater system valves (ultra-high velocity), ballast water treatment system valves.
Desalination Plants: Brine line isolation valves, high-pressure reverse osmosis (HPRO) feed valves, energy recovery device isolation.

Hydrometallurgy: Pressure acid leaching (PAL) valves, solvent extraction isolation, electrowinning solution valves.
Small valves (≤2″): Individual poly bags in carton
boxes with foam inserts.
Medium valves (2.5″–8″): Plywood
cases with foam padding, each valve separated.

1. Why choose Duplex
2205 over 316/316L stainless steel for ball valves?
Duplex 2205 offers twice the yield strength (450 MPa vs 170-205 MPa), superior
chloride SCC resistance, and higher pitting resistance (PRE ≥35 vs 24-26). For
offshore, seawater, and sour gas applications where 316 would fail, Duplex 2205
is the preferred material.
2. What is the
difference between S31803 and S32205?
S32205 is a restricted composition range of S31803 with tighter controls on Cr
(22.0-23.0% vs 21.0-23.0%), Mo (3.0-3.5% vs 2.5-3.5%), and N (0.14-0.20% vs
0.08-0.20%). S32205 offers higher corrosion resistance (PRE ≥35 vs ≥34) and is
generally preferred for new offshore construction.
3. Are Duplex 2205
ball valves suitable for sour service (H₂S environments)?
Yes, Duplex 2205 is fully NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 compliant for sour service up
to 232°C (450°F). We can supply documented HIC (NACE TM0284) and SSC (NACE
TM0177) test reports upon request.
4. What is the
maximum temperature for Duplex 2205 ball valves?
250°C (482°F) for chloride service; 300°C (572°F) for non-chloride service.
Above 300°C risk of sigma phase embrittlement. For higher temperatures,
consider super duplex 2507 or austenitic grades.
5. Are these valves
fire-safe certified?
Yes, our Duplex 2205 ball valves can be manufactured with API 607 / ISO 10497
fire-safe certification. Fire-safe test reports available upon request.
6. What seat material
is recommended for sour gas service?
PEEK (Polyetheretherketone) is recommended for sour gas service due to its
excellent chemical resistance, high temperature capability (up to 250°C), and
low outgassing properties.
7. Do Duplex 2205
ball valves require special welding procedures for installation?
Yes, Duplex 2205 requires proper welding procedures with low heat input and
N₂-containing shielding gas. For buttweld end valves, PWHT is generally not
required. We provide welding procedure recommendations upon request.
8. What is the
maximum pressure rating for Duplex 2205 ball valves?
Class 1500 (3700 psig at ambient temperature) for trunnion-mounted design. For
higher pressures, consider Super Duplex 2507 or Alloy 625 ball valves.
9. What is the
difference between floating ball and trunnion mounted ball valves?
Floating ball valves have the ball suspended between seats – suitable for
smaller sizes (≤10″) and lower pressures. Trunnion mounted valves have
additional stem support at top and bottom – required for larger sizes (≥2″) and
higher pressure classes (≥Class 600).
Complete Product Range: Floating, trunnion, three-piece, top entry, V-port – all types available for offshore and sour service.
Strict Quality Control: ISO 9001:2015, API 6D, PED 2014/68/EU, and NORSOK M-650 certified.
NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 Compliant: Full sour service documentation with HIC/SSC test reports on request.
Fire-Safe Certified: API 607 / ISO 10497 fire-safe testing available.
100% Pressure Tested: Hydrostatic shell test (1.5×), high and low pressure seat tests on every valve.
Ferrite Content Control: 100% documented ferrite measurement (35–65% ferrite).
Full Traceability: Heat number stamped on body – traceable back to original mill certificate with PMI verification.
Flexible Customization: Special end connections, extended stem, locking device, gear operator, pneumatic/electric/hydraulic actuation.
