Heat Treatment
Condition:
All A694 high-yield flanges are normalized or normalized and tempered (N+T) . This heat treatment
refines the grain structure, relieves internal stresses from forging, and
ensures consistent mechanical properties. For NACE MR0175 compliance, hardness
is controlled to ≤187 HBW.
Delivery Condition: Flanges are normally supplied in normalized condition. Upon request, normalized and tempered (N+T) can be provided for improved toughness.

1. What is the
difference between A694 F52, F60, and F65?
The grades indicate increasing yield strength: F52 (≥360 MPa), F60 (≥415 MPa),
F65 (≥450 MPa). Higher strength allows for thinner walls, reduced weight, and
higher pressure ratings. F65 is typically used for the most demanding
high-pressure transmission lines.
2. Can A694 flanges
be used for sour service (H₂S environments)?
Yes, with supplementary requirements. For NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 compliance,
the flanges must have hardness ≤187 HBW and be impact tested. Womic Steel can
supply A694 flanges with full sour service certification including HIC and SSC
test reports upon request.
3. What is the
maximum size available for A694 flanges?
Up to 60″ diameter for blind flanges and 48″ for weld neck flanges per ASME
B16.47. Larger custom sizes available upon request.
4. How do A694
flanges compare to A105 flanges for pipeline service?
A694 has significantly higher yield strength (360-450 MPa vs 250 MPa),
controlled carbon equivalent for better weldability, and mandatory
low-temperature impact testing. A694 is required for high-pressure gas
transmission (typically Class 600 and above) where A105 may not provide
sufficient strength.
5. Are A694 flanges
suitable for subsea service?
Yes, A694 flanges are commonly used in subsea pipeline systems per ISO 13628-4.
Additional requirements may include supplementary impact testing at lower
temperatures, NACE compliance, and third-party witnessing.
6. What facing is
recommended for high-pressure gas pipeline flanges?
Ring Type Joint (RTJ) facing with octagonal ring gasket is standard for
high-pressure gas transmission (Class 600-2500) to ensure leak-tight sealing
under high pressure and temperature cycling.
7. What is the typical
lead time for A694 flanges?
Stock sizes (6″–24″, Class 600/900 WN RF in F52/F60): 2–4 days. Non-stock or
special facings: 3–5 weeks. Large diameter B16.47 flanges (≥26″): 4–6 weeks
depending on thickness and grade.
Complete Product Range: Weld neck, blind, swivel ring, reducing, and long weld neck flanges – one-stop sourcing for pipeline projects.
All Three Grades Available: F52, F60, and F65 – ready to meet your specific strength requirements.
