Womic Stainless Steel Co., Ltd
Good Corrosion Resistance: Excellent resistance to oxidation and corrosion in fresh water, mild chemical media, atmospheric conditions, and food products. The 304L grade provides additional protection against intergranular corrosion after welding.
Excellent Formability and Ductility: Superior elongation (≥40%) allows for deep drawing, bending, stamping, spinning, and roll forming, making 304/304L the most formable austenitic stainless steel grade.
Cost-Effective Solution: Lower alloy content (no molybdenum) compared to 316/316L makes 304/304L a more economical choice for applications where chloride-induced pitting is not a concern.
Precise Dimensional Tolerances: Tight thickness tolerances (up to ±0.03mm for cold-rolled coils) ensure consistent material feeding for automated production lines and high-volume stamping operations.
Excellent Weldability: 304L grade ensures low carbon content for superior weld performance, with reduced risk of intergranular corrosion in welded fabrications. Suitable for TIG, MIG, laser, spot, and seam welding.
Smooth Surface Quality: Available in 2B (cold-rolled bright finish), BA (bright annealed), No.1 (hot-rolled annealed and pickled), No.4 (polished), HL (hairline), and mirror finishes.
Good Mechanical Strength: Adequate tensile and yield strength with excellent ductility for structural supports, equipment frames, and pressure applications.
Wide Temperature Range: Suitable for cryogenic applications down to -196°C and continuous service up to 800°C (1472°F). Retains excellent toughness at low temperatures.
International Certifications: Coils can be certified by ABS, BV, DNV, LR, GL, RINA, CCS, KR, and NK, and comply with NORSOK and ASME standards for general industrial applications.

Heat Treatment Condition:
Both 304 and 304L stainless steel coils are normally supplied in the annealed condition.
Solution annealing at 1010–1080°C followed by rapid cooling restores full
corrosion resistance, relieves internal stresses from rolling, and ensures
optimal ductility for further forming operations.
Delivery Condition Options:
Hot-Rolled (HR): Annealed and pickled (No.1 finish) or black hot-rolled
Cold-Rolled (CR): 2B finish (bright cold-rolled), 2D finish (dull cold-rolled), BA finish (bright annealed)

1. What is the difference between
304 and 304L stainless steel coils?
The main difference is carbon content. 304L has lower carbon (≤0.03% vs
≤0.08%), which prevents chromium carbide precipitation during welding and
provides better resistance to intergranular corrosion. For welded fabrications
exposed to temperatures between 425-870°C, 304L is preferred.
2. Can 304/304L coils be used in
marine environments?
304/304L is not recommended for seawater or high-chloride environments. For
marine applications, use 316/316L or duplex stainless steel coils which contain
molybdenum for enhanced pitting resistance.
3. What is the standard coil width
for 304 stainless steel coils?
Standard widths are 1000mm, 1219mm (4 feet), 1250mm, 1500mm, 1524mm (5 feet),
and 2000mm. Custom widths from 600mm to 2000mm available through slitting.
4. What surface finish is best for
deep drawing applications?
2B finish (cold-rolled bright annealed) is recommended for deep drawing applications
due to its uniform surface and consistent lubricant retention. BA finish also
works well for severe forming.
5. Can you provide coils with
trimmed (slit) edges?
Yes. We offer slitting services to produce narrow strips from 20mm to 600mm
width with slit edge tolerances of ±0.5mm. Slit coils are ideal for stamping
and roll forming operations.
6. Are 304L coils suitable for
cryogenic service?
Yes. 304L retains excellent impact toughness down to -196°C (-321°F) and is
widely used for liquid nitrogen, liquid oxygen, and LNG applications. No
ductile-to-brittle transition occurs.
7. What is the maximum temperature
for continuous service?
800°C (1472°F) for 304 and 304L. For intermittent service, up to 850°C
(1562°F). Above 800°C, consider 310S or 321 stainless steel coils.
8. Do you provide material test
reports (MTR) and certification?
Yes, every shipment includes EN 10204 Type 3.1 MTR with chemical analysis and
mechanical properties. Third-party inspection (SGS, BV, DNV, TUV, Intertek)
available upon customer request.
