Womic Stainless Steel Co., Ltd
Corrosion Resistance: Excellent resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride-containing environments, seawater, and aggressive chemical media, thanks to 2–3% molybdenum content. The low carbon 316L version provides enhanced resistance to intergranular corrosion after welding.
Excellent Machinability: Good chip formation and surface finish characteristics for precision turning, milling, drilling, and threading operations. 316L offers improved machinability for complex parts.
Superior Weldability: 316L grade ensures low carbon content for superior weld performance, with reduced risk of intergranular corrosion in welded fabrications. Suitable for TIG, MIG, laser, and resistance welding.
High Mechanical Strength: Excellent tensile and yield strength with good ductility for shafting, fasteners, and structural applications requiring load-bearing capacity.
Precision Dimensional Tolerances: Tight diameter tolerances (h6, h7, h8, h9, h11) ensure consistent material for precision machining and automatic lathe operations.
Smooth Surface Quality: Available in black (hot-rolled), peeled (bright), turned, ground, and polished finishes for various manufacturing requirements.
Non-Magnetic Properties: 316/316L round bars exhibit low magnetic permeability in the annealed condition, suitable for sensitive instrumentation and electronic applications.
International Certifications: Round bars can be certified by ABS, BV, DNV, LR, GL, RINA, CCS, KR, and NK, and comply with ASME, ASTM, EN, and JIS standards.

Both 316 and 316L stainless steel round bars exhibit excellent corrosion resistance and mechanical properties. The lower carbon content in 316L minimizes carbide precipitation during welding, providing enhanced resistance to intergranular corrosion compared to standard 316, especially in welded fabrications and high-temperature service environments.

Heat Treatment Condition:
Both 316 and 316L stainless steel round bars are normally supplied in the annealed
condition. Solution annealing at 1040–1080°C followed by rapid cooling
(water quenching) restores full corrosion resistance, relieves internal
stresses from rolling or forging, and ensures optimal ductility for further
machining operations.
Delivery Condition Options:
l Black (Hot-Rolled): As-rolled with mill scale – for further processing
l Bright (Peeled/Turned): Smooth, oxide-free surface – for precision machining
l Centerless Ground: Precision ground to tight tolerances – for shafting and instrumentation
l Polished: Smooth mechanical finish – for decorative and sanitary applications

1. What is the difference between
316 and 316L stainless steel round bars?
The main difference is carbon content. 316L has lower carbon (≤0.03% vs
≤0.08%), which prevents carbide precipitation during welding and provides
better resistance to intergranular corrosion. For welded components, 316L is
typically preferred.
2. What is the maximum diameter
available for 316/316L round bars?
Standard diameters up to 300mm. Larger diameters up to 500mm are available upon
request with extended lead time.
3. What surface finish is best for
precision machining?
Bright (peeled) or centerless ground finish is recommended for precision
machining. These finishes provide consistent diameter tolerances (h9 or h6) and
smooth surface finish (Ra 0.2-1.6μm), reducing tool wear and improving part
quality.
4. Can 316 round bars be used for
hydraulic cylinder applications?
Yes, with centerless ground finish (h6 tolerance) and polished surface,
316/316L round bars are suitable for hydraulic cylinder rods and piston rods in
corrosive environments.
5. Do you provide material test
reports (MTR) and certification?
Yes, every shipment includes EN 10204 Type 3.1 MTR with chemical analysis and
mechanical properties. Third-party inspection (SGS, BV, DNV, ABS, TUV)
available upon request.
6. Are 316/316L round bars suitable
for marine shafts?
Yes, 316/316L round bars offer excellent resistance to seawater corrosion and
are widely used for boat shafts, propeller shafts, and marine hardware.
ABS/DNV/LR certifications available.
7. What is the standard length for
316/316L round bars?
Standard random lengths are 3000mm-6000mm. Fixed lengths of 3000mm, 4000mm,
5000mm, and 6000mm are available. Custom lengths can be cut to order.
