Key Features of 304/304L Stainless Steel Channels

Good Corrosion Resistance: Excellent resistance to oxidation and corrosion in fresh water, mild chemical media, atmospheric conditions, and food products. The 304L grade provides additional protection against intergranular corrosion after welding.

Excellent Formability: 304/304L stainless steel offers superior forming characteristics, making it ideal for bending, cutting, drilling, and fabrication operations.

Cost-Effective Solution: Lower alloy content (no molybdenum) compared to 316/316L makes 304/304L a more economical choice for applications where chloride-induced pitting is not a concern.

Good Mechanical Strength: Good tensile and yield strength with excellent ductility for structural applications, suitable for light to medium load-bearing frameworks.

Superior Weldability: 304L grade ensures low carbon content for superior weld performance, with reduced risk of intergranular corrosion in welded fabrications.

Precision Dimensional Tolerances: Tight tolerances on web height, flange width, thickness, and straightness ensure consistent quality for structural assemblies.

Smooth Surface Quality: Available in annealed and pickled finish (standard), polished, or brushed finishes for architectural and exposed applications.

Multiple Channel Types: U channels (standard channels), C channels, parallel flange channels, and cold-formed channels available.

Aesthetic Appearance: Bright silver finish provides excellent visual appeal for exposed structural elements in architectural applications.

International Certifications: Channels can be certified by ABS, BV, DNV, LR, GL, RINA, CCS, KR, and NK, and comply with ASME and EN standards.

Heat Treatment Condition:
Both 304 and 304L stainless steel channels are normally supplied in the annealed and pickled condition. Solution annealing at 1010–1080°C followed by rapid cooling restores full corrosion resistance, relieves internal stresses from rolling, and ensures optimal ductility for fabrication.

Delivery Condition:
Channels are normally supplied in annealed and pickled condition, providing a clean, smooth surface and good corrosion resistance. Upon request, polished, brushed, or bright annealed finishes can be provided for architectural applications.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1. What is the difference between 304 and 304L stainless steel channels?
The main difference is carbon content. 304L has lower carbon (≤0.03% vs ≤0.08%), which prevents carbide precipitation during welding and provides better resistance to intergranular corrosion. For welded structural applications, 304L is typically preferred.

2. Can 304 stainless steel channels be used in marine environments?
No. For seawater or high-chloride environments, use 316/316L or duplex stainless steel channels. 304/304L is not suitable for marine applications.

3. What is the standard length for stainless steel channels?
Standard length is 6 meters (20 feet). Custom lengths from 1m to 12m available upon request.

4. What is the difference between U channel and C channel?
U channel has tapered flanges typical of hot-rolled sections. C channel has parallel flanges, often from cold-forming or precision hot-rolling.

5. Do you provide material test reports (MTR) and certification?
Yes, every shipment includes EN 10204 Type 3.1 MTR with chemical analysis and mechanical properties. Third-party inspection available upon request.
