NAS 800 (UNS N08800)is anickel–chromium–iron solid-solution strengthened high-temperature alloy, equivalent toAlloy 800, also known as Incoloy 800, is a high-nickel alloy primarily composed of nickel, chromium, and iron. Designed forexcellent resistance to oxidation, carburization, and high-temperature corrosion. This alloy uses nickel (30.00–35.00%), chromium (19.00–23.00%), and iron (≥39.5%) as its core elements, supplemented with aluminum (0.15–0.60%) and titanium (0.15–0.60%) to stabilize the austenitic structure and refine the grains. Carbon (≤0.10%) and sulfur (≤0.015%) contents are strictly controlled to reduce the risk of intergranular corrosion.

This alloy NAS 800 (UNS N08800)is widely used inheat treatment furnaces, petrochemical plants, power generation, and high-temperature pressure systems, where long-term stability and strength are required.

Alloy 800 / NAS 800 (UNS N08800) Pipes & Tubes – Welding Procedure

Alloy 800 (NAS 800, UNS N08800) exhibits excellent weldability and can be welded using conventional welding processes while maintaining high-temperature strength and corrosion resistance.

Recommended Welding Methods

Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW / TIG)

Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW / MIG)

Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW)

These welding processes provide sound weld joints with good mechanical properties when proper parameters are applied.

Filler Metal Selection

GTAW / GMAW: ERNiCr-3 (Inconel® 82)

SMAW: ENiCrFe-3 (Inconel® 182)

These filler metals ensure good metallurgical compatibility, corrosion resistance, and high-temperature performance.

Pre-Weld Preparation

Thoroughly clean all joint surfaces to remove oil, grease, moisture, paint, and oxide films.

Use stainless steel wire brushes or approved chemical cleaning methods to prevent contamination.

Welding Parameters

Apply low to moderate heat input to minimize grain growth in the heat-affected zone (HAZ).

Maintain controlled interpass temperatures to preserve corrosion resistance and mechanical stability.

Use stringer beads rather than wide weave beads for better weld quality.

Post-Weld Heat Treatment

Post-weld heat treatment (PWHT) is generally not required for Alloy 800.

For critical or highly stressed applications, stress-relief annealing at approximately 870°C (1600°F) may be performed if specified by design codes or service conditions.

Alloy 800 as a Heating Element Material

Alloy 800 (NAS 800 / UNS N08800) is widely used in heating element and high-temperature furnace applications due to its excellent resistance to oxidation, carburization, and nitridation, combined with stable mechanical properties at elevated temperatures.

Typical Applications

Industrial Furnaces:

Suitable for continuous service temperatures up to 1100°C (2000°F) in oxidizing environments.

Electric Heating Elements:

Offers excellent resistance to carburizing and nitriding atmospheres.

Petrochemical Processing Equipment:

Commonly used in reformer tubes, cracking furnaces, and heat transfer systems due to its superior creep and rupture strength.

Specifications for Heating Element Applications

Custom Manufacturing:
