Heat Treatment of Nickel-Copper Alloy (UNS N04400)

Alloy 400, whether cold-worked or hot-worked, can undergo annealing or stress-relieving treatment to obtain the required strength and ductility while reducing deformation during processing.


Annealing of Nickel-Copper Alloy (UNS N04400):

Heat treatment must be performed in a sulfur-free reducing environment. The annealing temperature range is 704-982°C, but the most commonly used range is 871-982°C. If a lower annealing temperature is used, such as 740-816°C, the heat treatment time needs to be longer to reduce grain coarsening.


Stress Relief Treatment of Nickel-Copper Alloy (UNS N04400)

Stress relief treatment releases stress without altering the grain structure. Heating to 538-566°C and holding for 1-2 hours removes stress from hot-worked or cold-worked workpieces.


Hot Working of Nickel-Copper Alloy (UNS N04400):

The hot working temperature range for Alloy 400 is 927-1177°C. The optimal working temperature is approximately 1093°C. By using moderately controlled cold or hot working amounts, combined with appropriate heat treatment, the mechanical properties of the machined workpiece can be adjusted over a wide range.


Cold Working of Nickel-Copper Alloy (UNS N04400):

Alloy 400 can also be cold-worked. The mechanical properties of the finished product can be adjusted by controlling the amount of cold working and selecting appropriate heat treatment.

Machining of Nickel-Copper Alloy (UNS N04400):

Alloy 400 can be machined using industrial machining tools. Cold-drawn or cold-drawn materials with stress relief are more suitable for machining.


Welding of Nickel-Copper Alloy (UNS N04400):

Alloy 400 can be welded or brazed using either gas welding or electric welding. When using gas welding, the flame must be nearly neutral, the weld must be completed quickly, and rework is not permitted.
